I am having a simialar problem with tripod at the moment, i had just started building a website for an in-game guild in EVE-online, the site was just the index.html and a couple of frames and all of a sudden i went to see what the site looked like in ei7 and there it was gone with a nice little message saying that it may have broken the terms of service. I have read through the TOS and can find nothing that would have broken these on my site, they have also locked my account for suspected abuse and as yet i haven't had any reply to my email sent to abuse@lycos.com or to the question i have posted on thier help desk.

I work in the IT support industry and if i was to speak to a custome the way the lycos rep had i would be fired on the spot and maybe even beaten with a big stick.

After revisiting this site, I notice something that everyone ought to keep in mind: companies, such as Lycos, have the ability to change the rules -- including their terms of service -- at any time and the only way to know is by a little indicator somewhere on the site.

This right to change the rules is written into the rules. Additionally, on web hosting sites such as Tripod, members think they can post anything under the guise of "free speech" Unfortunately, very few (none) of these companies are owned by the U.S. government.

Free Speech protection is reserved to protection from government action. The terms of service is essentially a contract that allows the company to do pretty much anything, including change the terms without notification and delete content (sites and mail). They have all the power.

I am FURIOUS with Lycos. I have bought 3 domains from them and I am having issues with them even working. I worked hard to build my small business website and I expect it to be viewed online under the domain I PAID FOR. Trouble is I cannot find a Customer Support number ANYWHERE on the site. I called their Advertising Employee's number and left a message to please call me back with a Customer Support number. NO RESPONSE. Does ANYONE know the LYCOS CUSTOMER SUPPORT NUMBER????? PLEASE HELP! Thanks.

My Lycos Inbox was disabled and I was not able to send emails, only receive. I used "Reporting Incidents" in Help and under "Not able to receive emails" I selected my system, browser and ISP, which are the same as before!!!!

I got the response that the changes will be acted upon within two days and I can now receive and send emails.

I have also sent an email to support@support.lycos.com and received an immediate response which stated that I was with Lycos UK and they could not help me, being Lycos US.

I hope this helps.

Looks like I late to join the bandwagon! I've been a lycos customer (paying) for 10 years. Now that I live outside the US in a 3rd world country where I'm teaching and have no means of sending them their 9.95 USD bacause I no longer have a US bank account (not planning on returning, I like it here). I am experiencing all kinds of problems with my account. Does anyone know of an e-mail service provider who is a good as lycos used to be? If you do, please let me know.

cheers,

Gwne

Mailcity is not a highly impressive web-based email service but moreover to stay afloat it engages in deceitful and fradulent practices albethey legal. I, most unfortunately, requested more storage space and gave Mailcity my credit card number. They proceeded to bill me every 6 mos., until I decided to switch to gmail and shut down my account with mailcity, BUT they haven't stopped billing me yet EVEN THOUGH I filed a dispute with my credit card company--on the basis that there is absolutely no way to contact them via the website: they don't respond to email, there is no phone number, except one at the bottom of their arbitration small print, which leads no where. Mailcity is a stupid behemoth with no head, no scruples and no technological innovation to boast--Mailcity is destined to imminent extinction! This practice of billing will require me to call my credit card company every time they bill me, which they can legally do, and tell them to block the payment. This can continue indefinitely until Mailcity tires of paying the dispute fees. Itâ??s not that much money, this is a question of principle! Down with Mailcity!!!
