Idaho’s mixed housing blessing.

Mixed in what way? Idaho’s housing market is great if you managed to buy before prices got out of control. It’s not so good if you couldn’t afford to buy a home before 2005 and your income isn’t going up at, say, 20% a year. From the Statesman:

According to the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, Idaho housing values jumped at an annualized rate of 20.79 percent and 20.89 percent in the first two quarters of 2006, respectively, before cooling to 17.57 percent and 13.99 percent in the final two quarters of the year.

My daughter found an apt on Craigslist.com and went to see about renting it. The man’s name is Buddy and his phone number is 208-343-9313, Homestead Apts/ Parklane Apts. He had her put up a deposit of $300 and told her that it was Fully refundable if she was not accepted or did not sign the lease. She told him that she had 2 dogs that would be over 40 lbs (since they had a 40 lb limit with a limit of 1 dog). She put it on her application. He marked through it and put 40 lbs and said to her, “Remember you only have one dog”. Telling her to LIE. HE gave her a reciept for the $320 she put up for the deposit. Thinking that it was only a reciept, she stuck it in her purse without looking at it. a few days later he called her and told her that she was not accepted without a co-signer or an additional $550 deposit. In order to try and not have to pay the $550 extra, I filled out the paperwork to co-sign the end of the day on June 18th costing another $20. That night, my daughter found out that she was going to be able to stay in the place that she was already in for another year. The next morning we called early and told Buddy we did not want the apt after all because she would be staying where she was and we did not feel good about lieing about the dogs. I then asked him to please refund the deposit. He stated that it was not refundable since she was accepted. I told him, no she was not accepted without another $550 deposit or a co-signer. He flat refused to refund it. My daughter is a student in Pre-Med and I raised her by myself, so needless to say, this is a HUGE amount of money to loose by a Scamming Apartment Complex. I have petition the main company Parklane Apts as well and they also refused to return the money. This was HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL SCAM and I would like to see Craigslist shut down their ads or at least place a warning on their ads as well I would like the news to investigate this.
