virgin birth, dragon style!

baby komodo dragon

the baby komodo dragons hatched!! the baby komodo dragons hatched!! and their mom, flora, made them all by herself. now this is a miraculous feature of nature.

unlike mr sali, who also recently did something all by himself, which also involved features of nature, Bubblehead of The Stupid Shall Be Punished notes that he may even be against the bed of rocks this tiny ‘largest lizzard on earth’ is gently resting on!!

Yep, Sali’s off to a “rocky” start.

Parthenogenisis! See, I learned *something* in high school biology.

Please use capitalization and proper punctuation. If you can use double exclamation points, you can certainly go to the effort of hitting the shift key. In fact, I just noticed that one needs to use the shift key to do an exclamation point. So what is up with the refusal to capitalize? Also what is up with the ability to put periods at the end of a sentence, but not elsewhere. Really, it is likely that fewer people will read what you have to say if you continue in this manner.

So what is up with the refusal to capitalize?

hi gertrude. you have a really great name…and thanks for the feedback.

my 2 cents: if people are turned off by irregular capitalization and expressive use of punctuation - i personally don’t think it’s an issue worth fretting over “loss of readers” about. it’s the 21-century, language can work in a lot of different ways.

besides, i’m interested in “capitalizing” on smart fun things - political or otherwise. if you’re interested in participating, please do. if you want a blog which conforms to proper AMA or Chicago Style writing, go for it and write one yourself. thanks, but we’ve already been to college!

LOL Spacegirl. It is a little distracting but hey, its your blog. It won’t stop me from reading. You are a breath of fresh air.

Spacegirl is right — the writer of the blog gets to use whatever style they want. The reader gets to decide if they want to read it even with the idiosynchrasies. Bloggers can use no caps, or a Wingdings font that the reader has to copy to Word and convert, or whatever they want to do to make their blog “stand out”. (For example, I capitalize every word in the titles of my posts.) Or, they can be like Bill Sali and just mis-spell everything.

Darn it, I made fun of Sali’s spelling, and then Karl Rove came in and changed my spelling of “idiosyncrasies” to something incorrect. Darn that evil Rove!

I don’t think that Gertrude was advocating any style for the sake of style or tradition. I think she was saying that the no-caps thing is hard to read. I just don’t understand why you woudn’t want to do anything to make it more difficult to read your posts. You have a nice graphic and the design is easy to navigate; why not make it easy to read as well?

And while we’re at it, why stop at experimenting with capitalization, why not say fuck all and mess with spelling? Why not grammar? Go nuts! Make people WORK for the read!

Its just parthinogenesis as noted. Not all that miraculous. It would be a miracle if humans did parthinogenesis.
